Bridgeport News: Firefighters Promoted

Six  firefighters were promoted and a class of nine new fire recruits were sworn in by Mayor Bill Finch Thursday evening at the City Hall chambers those promoted were: Assistant Chief Harold Clarke, a 27-year veteran; Assistant Chief James Cook, a 27-year veteran; Lts. Jeffrey Cordisco, 14 years, Dennis Gergley, 14 years, and Damaso Morales, 24 years, and Pumper Engineer Michael DeFranzo, seven years. New Recruits ceremoniously sworn in were: Marcos Ramos; Darnell Tobin; Timothy Hannigan; Charles Ovesny; Loren Dailey; Martin Rodriguez; Terry Mincy; Gregory Prior and Thomas Varanelli.  They will be re-sworn in after graduation from the academy. 12:39pm--#Bridgeport CT--EMS transport  an unconscious  pedestrian who was hit by a car at the northern part of Madison Avenue near Cherry Hill Drive.  The area is being blocked off by police for their investigation, avoid the area. Bridgeport Police Press Release:   Police are investigating an incident in which a pedestrian was struck on Madison Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. today.Initial witness accounts to police stated that the victim and a second female were in the roadway when the victim was struck by a red Nissan coupe that was traveling north on Madison Avenue.The victim was taken to Saint Vincent's Medical Center where she is being treated.
