Here is the police info on the pursuit we reported the other day as it was happening:
(Bridgeport, CT – May 20, 2014)—A 20-year-old man faces criminal and motor vehicle charges after a police pursuit.
Officer Matthew Goncalves attempted to pull over a motorist on Iranistan Avenue Monday but the driver sped off. After a short pursuit, the driver stopped and fled on foot, running through back yards and scaling fences. Police followed but lost sight of the suspect. K-9 Officer Mark Martocchio arrived and his dog initiated a track in the 2400 block of Park Avenue. The canine led Martocchio to a row of hedges and Martocchio observed the suspect hiding near a garage on Hillside Avenue. The suspect, identified as William “Poopie” Thompson, of Bridgeport, attempted to flee and was apprehended by the dog. Officers Martocchio and Michael Stanitis took him into custody.
His passenger remained with the car and was not charged.
“I don’t know why he ran,” the man told police. “He’s just being stupid.”
Thompson was charged with interfering with police, reckless endangerment and motor vehicle offenses.
