6:01pm–#Stratford CT–A house at 25 Emerald Place was significantly damage by fire Sunday evening.  The home is a side road behind the Treeland area and 911 received numerous calls about the fire.  At first it was thought to be in Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Fire Department sent vehicles to Emerald Street and Emerald Place in the city but found nothing at either location.  Quickly calls did come in for Stratford.  Firefighters had the bulk of the fire knocked down within fifteen minutes and chased hot spots  At 7:05pm firefighters completed the overhaul and the investigation for the cause begins.  The fire is thought to have started in a room in the basement.

The mother and son who lived in the house were not home when the fire broke out.  Firefighters were told there were pets in the house which they did rescue.  Bridgeport Fire Department acted as the Rapid Intervention Team since they were already on location and Milford Fire Department provided a ladder truck to Stratford for coverage if needed.  There were no reported injuries.

  1. There was 1 occupant (who was asleep) in the house, as well as the dog and cat. Two neighbors broke into the house and were able to get the dog and male occupant out, prior to FD arriving. Neighbors were unsuccessful in finding the cat, but searched the basement, prior to FD arriving.
