Scam Warning

Utility Scam warning from Sergeant Jillian Cabana, Westport Police Detective Bureau Utility Company Scams- These scams commonly involve a person(s) that arrives at your home and pretends to be a member of one of the local utility companies (water, sewer,electric). They often ask to be shown to the basement or to be led into another room to check the water pressure meanwhile, allowing a second person to enter and steal from the victim’s home (usually jewelry, small electronics, or cash) while the homeowner is distracted. If you did not call the utility company and request for them to come to your home for service, you can deny them entry and call the police.
