11:07pm–#Bridgeport CT–Just after 11pm 911 operators received a number of calls of a car that crashed into the Expressions Night Club at 1425 Boston Avenue.  Area hospitals were immediately put on alert as they expected a high number of injuries.  Assistant Fire Chief William Hathaway told us that there were approximately 20-25 people inside the club.  When first responders arrived on scene they reported a large group outside the club and a number of people lying on the ground.

Our witness who was inside the club when the crash occurred agreed to talk to us if her identity was not revealed said there were two people she saw injured.  One person had a broken leg and the other had a gash to their face.  Chief Hathaway told us there were a total of 4 that were injured and none of the injuries were life threatening.  Our witness also said the driver attempted to back out of the building but was unable to.

Chief Hathaway said the car was traveling (north) on Central Avenue, went through the light and about 15 feet into the club.  The car clipped a gas main that was in front of the building but there was no gas leak.  Firefighters secured and “pinned out” the meter so it would not be an issue.

The driver was being questioned by police at the scene and was later taken into custody.  The building inspector arrived on the scene to determine the damage to the building which does not appear to be structural according to Hathaway.  He also said there were no injuries to the freighters during the operation.
