(Bridgeport, CT – Sept. 16, 2013) – A 22-year-old man faces first-degree assault and child endangerment charges for violently and repeatedly assaulting a 5-year-old relative.
Detective Dave De Feo secured the arrest warrant for Daquon Gomillion on four counts of first-degree assault and four-counts of risk of injury to a minor.
He was arrested Monday after arriving for a civil hearing relating to the custody of the victim. De Feo began the investigation on July 18 after DCF reported a child with extensive scarring over much of his body and other injuries. De Feo, who has training in investigating child abuse and neglect and worked for 10 years in the department’s Youth Bureau, said the injuries were consistent with being struck with an extension cord.
He described the injuries as “the worst that I’ve ever seen” in a child abuse case.
As the request of DCF, the child, who had been removed from the home, was examined by a pediatrician at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital. The doctor detailed the boy’s extensive injuries.
“The number of scars is too numerous to count, and the number exceeds the number that I have ever seen on any other child,” the doctor stated in an affidavit provided to police.
Gomillion’s bond was set at $250,000.
