(Bridgeport, CT – July 23. 2013) –In a story we reported to you LIVE as it was breaking a 28-year-old man faces charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman Sunday.
Arturo Hernandez, of Bridgeport, was charged with a series of offenses, including sexual assault, kidnapping and threatening. He was jailed on $250,000 bond.
Officer John Carrano responded to the area of State and Seeley streets on a report of a sexual assault and located the victim, who is in her 30s and lives in Bridgeport.
Police were directed to the area where the suspect fled. Carrano, Sgt. Ronald Mercado and Detective James Borrico searched the area. The suspect was arrested after Borrico lifted the lid on a dumpster and found him on top of the garbage bags.
Carrano later learned that several people in the area had chased the suspect after the victim had alerted them that she had been assaulted. One person tackled Hernandez in an effort to detain him for police but the suspect broke free.
The victim stated that she was accosted at knife-point and forced into a secluded area, where the suspect forced her to perform a sex act.
