Weiner Pulls Out

Despite recent talk of a possible political reemergence, former New York congressman Anthony Weiner insists he has no political comeback planned - at least for the moment.  Weiner, who resigned from Congress last summer following a drawn-out scandal over the discovery that he had been sending lewd pictures to women on the Internet, has come under the spotlight anew, after a New York Post story last weekend alleged he was "seriously" considering a mayoral bid in 2013.  CBSnews.com has the full story here.....

Book Thief in Westport

At approximately 3:00 pm police responded to 1076 Post Road East, Barnes & Noble Book Store, on a report of a larceny in progress call. Employees at Barnes and Noble positively identified two suspects stealing large quantities of books and fleeing the area on foot. Responding officers were able to locate and detain the two suspects. The investigation determined that the suspects allegedly stole $868.00 worth of books from the store. A vehicle, a Jaguar bearing Georgia license plates was located and identified as the car used to arrive at the store.   Located in plain sight were large quantities of books placed inside the vehicle. Stratford Fire Battling Blaze And Problems On Garfield Ave.

Firefighters were on scene of Stratford Bailing on Garfield Avenue (off Honeyspot Road). Firefighters encountered unusual issues battling the blaze, first with an SUV trying to pass a ladder truck and then with a tractor trailer blocking a fire hydrant on Garfield Ave. that they needed to utilize. Police were called to the scene while all hands worked to extinguish the fire. The system placed phone calls, emails and text messages to Fairfield residents and businesses explaining the new Emergency Notification System. CodeRED replaced the Reverse 911 system in Fairfield. CodeRED provides Town officials with the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or to the entire Town in an emergency situation. 10 Year Old Girl Drowns at Lake Mohegan in Fairfield

A ten year old Bridgeport girl was pulled from Lake Mohegan after being under water for about 45 minutes. EMTs performed CPR at the scene "This is heartbreaking, but we are hoping they can perform a miracle and save her" Chief of Police Gary MacNamara told us. "She was swimming with her mother, the daughter slipped, the mother grabbed her, at one point she had her on her back but she slid off and went under" Lieutenant James Perez told us. Chief MacNamara confirmed after 10pm that the girl did pass away.

Bridgeport Bus Station Opened As Cooling Center

Mayor Bill Finch and Greater Bridgeport Transit officials urge City residents to come to the Greater Bridgeport Transit Main Bus Terminal at 710 Water St., to cool off on Tuesday, July 17, and Wednesday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The American Red Cross will provide cold water. “With the temperatures expected to reach into the mid-90’s today and tomorrow, coupled with high humidity it has the potential to be some of the hottest temperatures yet this summer,” said Mayor Finch. “I urge anyone who needs a place to cool off to come to the bus terminal or visit a local senior center or one of our libraries to stay cool during the next couple of days,” said…
