Fire officials are investigating that the fireat 199 Yacht Street in Bridgeport intentionally set. Around 8pm a call came in for heavy smoke on the fifth floor of this six story apartment complex. Firefighters discovered that rubber was set on fire in the hallway which they quickly extinguished. They called in the fire marshal for an investigation. 199 Yacht Street is across the street from Captain's Cove Seaport.
FAIRFIELD, CT, October 8, 2011: Fairfield Fire Marshal Bill Kessler was on the scene for Hazardous Materials Collection Day in Veterans’ Park this afternoon at about 1:15 when a town resident opened their trunk to dispose of a variety of materials, including a glass pint container of tetrahydrofuran. The chemist from collection contractor Clean Harbors determined that the material may have become unstable and reactive, resulting in calls to Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the State Police Emergency Services Unit. [caption id="attachment_4451" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="2nd Shooting in the Park City Thursday Night"][/caption] Police are investigating a shooting that took place on Beechwood Avenue near Norman Street just after 10pm Thursday night. According to EMTs the victim was shot several times while sitting in his car. This was Bridgeport's second shooting of the night, a person was shot at the Mobil Station at 3196 Main Street around 8pm. The victim at that shooting was driven to St. Vincent's Hospital by private car around 8pm. Condition of both victims are unknown at this reporting.
[caption id="attachment_4435" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="2 officer and 2 civilians had to be extricated by the fire department"][/caption] Shortly after 8:30pm Wednesday night a Bridgeport Police Car was involved in a crash that required the fire department to extricate two police officers and two civilians from their car near the corner of Barnum Avenue and Hallett Street. It is unknown at this time the status of the officer or civilians or if the patrol car was involved in active police activity at the time of the accident. This intersection was the scene of an accident with a city bus and pickup truck earlier this year.
Fairfield’s bravest in Police and Fire Departments were presented awards Tuesday night. The Fairfield Fire Department is presented Fire Chiefs Awards, Exceptional Medical Service Awards, Unit Citations of Valor, Honorable Service Medals, and Joseph S. Elias Meritorious Service Awards, while the Police Department presented Chief’s Letters of Recognition, Letters of Commendation for Honorable Service, and Unit Citations. The agencies will then join in recognizing several members of the community with Civilian Public Safety Awards for extraordinary actions over the past year.
