On Facebook–Is Social Cam Spam?

In the last couple of months Facebook has been encouraging its users to do more with social readers apps and video apps like socialcam and Viddy. While most apps are still in the early developmental stage, lots of Facebook users are taking advantage of them, even to the annoyance of their friends. If you got an e-mail from Ann Nyberg today asking for help after being robbed of her credit cards, cash and cell phone while in Madrid Spain relax.  She was in Connecticut all day,but her e-mail account was hacked.  Here is video report from WTNH.

Obama declares support for gay marriage

President Obama today announced that he now supports same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.  In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president described his thought process as an “evolution” that led him to this place, based on conversations with his own staff members, openly gay and lesbian service members, and conversations with his wife and own daughters.  Read full story…….

Staten Island Wants To Outlaw Tattoos, Piercings For Pets

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Calling the practice “odd” and nothing more than “animal cruelty,” Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis has introduced legislation that would establish a misdemeanor charge for owners who subject pets to piercings, tattoos and certain other cosmetic surgeries.  Malliotakis (R-East Shore/Brooklyn) says she was driven to address the practice after viewing “Pet Crazy,” a documentary about such behavior on “20/20.”

“I was sickened after seeing the images of dogs with tattoos and piercings through their eyebrows and noses. While the psychological effects on these animals is an area of debate, the fact remains that most of these procedures require an application of general anesthesia which poses a health risk in itself,” said Malliotakis in a press release. “The animal must then go through the pain of recovery and possible infection, or post-surgery complications. These non-medical cosmetic procedures are not just odd and unnecessary, they amount to animal cruelty.”  Read full story……

DEA Jails and Forgets Man For 5 Days- No Food or Water

Daniel Chong, the UC San Diego student who was left in a Drug Enforcement Administration holding cell for nearly five days, said the time spent there was a life-altering experience. On Wednesday, the DEA apologized for the incident.  The 23-year-old spoke with NBCSanDiego and said he was increasingly worried throughout the days he spent in a 5-foot by 10-foot cell. “They never came back, ignored all my cries and I still don’t know what happened,” he said. “I’m not sure how they could forget me. Funeral Costs Burden Family After Deadly Crash

SUV Plunges Into NYC’s Bronx Zoo Grounds; 7 Dead

NEW YORK (AP) — An out-of-control SUV barreled across several lanes of traffic on a highway overpass Sunday, then plunged more than 50 feet off the side of the road and landed in a ravine on the grounds of the Bronx Zoo, killing all seven people aboard, including three children, authorities said.    The SUV was headed south on the Bronx River Parkway that cuts through a working-class neighborhood when it bounced off the median, crossed three southbound lanes and hit the curb, causing the vehicle to become airborne, continue over the guardrail and plunge 59 feet, police said.  Read Full Story…….

Food Stamp Rolls Grow 70%

45 million people in 2011 received Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, a 70% increase from 2007. It said the number of people receiving the benefits, commonly known as food stamps, would continue growing until 2014. Spending for the program, not including administrative costs, rose to $72 billion in 2011, up from $30 billion four years earlier. The CBO projected that one in seven U.S. residents received food stamps last year. Read Full Story…….
